Nancy Chausow Shafer


Nancy Chausow Shafer is a partner at Sage Counsel LLC (f/k/a Chausow Shafer PC). Ms. Shafer has concentrated her practice in family law for over 30 years, selecting the appropriate and unique resolution process for each case, whether litigation, mediation, or collaboration.
She is a Fellow of the prestigious American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and has been selected by her peers as an Illinois Super Lawyer and a Leading Lawyer. Ms. Shafer participates and has served on many of the boards in the Family Law Sections of the Illinois State Bar, Lake County Bar, DuPage County Bar, and American Bar Associations, the Domestic Relations Committee of the Chicago Bar Association, and also maintains membership in IACP, AFCC and CDI. She is a past president of the Association of Women Attorneys of Lake County. She is also a trustee on the Moraine Township board.
Ms. Shafer is a well-known speaker and author of multiple legal publications. Having composed a chapter in the classic IICLE Contested Child Custody Litigation Handbook, written the "Child Support and Maintenance Calculation Guide" for the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education, among many other articles, she is also a frequent speaker at legal conferences and conventions (see detailed list below). Ms. Shafer has been on the faculty for mediation training offered by the AAML and Zena Zumeta's Mediation Training and Consultation Institute.
She is an early adopter of technologies, including working with the nationwide leading divorce financial software, Family Law Software. Her work with Family Law Software has made her a leading authority consulted by her colleagues on the bench and in bar associations all over the country.
